The wishbone design of this pencil encourages and supports the tripod finger posture for holding a pencil. Provides the ideal grip for maximum control and consistency and reduces stress on the hand, improving handwriting duration, especially good for those with low tone or joint hyper mobility. Extremely comfortable.
The slightly larger version pen by the same makers – the penagain, was mentioned in Lois Addy’s book (How to increase the potential of students with DCD…) as a tool to make handwriting easier. Many dyspraxics start with the twist ‘n write pencil and move onto the penagain, often using both.

What we think: hindsight is a wonderful thing, if I had my time again with Oli I would definitely have got him to try this pen a lot sooner. This pencil really assists the fingers into the tripod grip without you realising it and is extremely comfortable. It’s great when a pencil has a pen choice too in the slightly larger penagain.
Top tip: If you are buying these for your child I would always send them to school with 2 pencils just in case the lead on one of them ran out; they would still have another to use until you or the teacher could assist in changing the lead. Easy enough for an adult but a little challenging for smaller dyspraxic fingers.
